A Stay that’s Provençal but definitely not Provincial

Imagining a medieval priory as being somewhat basic in what it is has to offer is entirely understandable. But La Verrière is far from basic. Tucked away on the edge of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a large part of the charm of this whole house hire is its idyllic seclusion. But rather than being a slightly provincial or ‘shabby chic’ place to stay, La Verrière oozes with eco-luxury accommodation and provides guests with a ‘medieval meets modern’ taste of Provence - from the beautiful setting, to the gastronomic organic and locally sourced food, to the biodynamic wines produced from the estate’s ancient vineyards.

Food

Our walled ‘potager’, kitchen garden and orchard may be medieval but our kitchen (and our chef!) is state-of-the-art. Although we grow many of the ingredients ourselves, and source others from nearby artisans, the menu choice is far from limited. Olive oil comes from our organic olive trees, and an abundance of fruit and vegetables are grown in our garden. Along with locally sourced meat, fish, and cheese, these wonderfully fresh ingredients are masterfully transformed into exquisite culinary treats by our talented and experienced chef, Victor. Tantalise your tastes buds with our ‘Picnic for Two’, our ‘La Chenobox’ or our ‘Farm to Fork Lunch’. We are also able to offer classes in our kitchen, for guests who want to learn the secrets of Provençal cooking.

Activities

Aside from cooking with Chef Victor, there are a variety of other activities on offer at La Verrière.  Being located where we are, the natural beauty of the landscape is a huge attraction. So what better way to explore than with the many walking, hiking and cycling opportunities that are available? But if you’d prefer a more relaxed visit, then you can opt to take in the wonderful scenery whilst relaxing on a sun lounger, taking a dip in the infinity pool or soothing your muscles in the jacuzzi. And for those who feel like working off some of Victor’s culinary delights, there is a fitness studio and a tennis court, as well as a Jungle Gym for children. We pride ourselves in trying to provide ‘something for everyone’ so we also offer workshops in beekeeping, wine tasting, wine and food pairing, wine blending and a cellar tour.

Amenities

We’ve all been to rustic retreats where the hot water isn’t ever quite hot enough, the TV only picks up a couple of obscure channels and a reliable WiFi signal is a distant dream. At La Verrière, we consistently aim to achieve the ‘medieval meets modern’ solution. All of our bedrooms have individually remote-controlled air conditioning, digital radios and high-speed WiFi. There is a small Cinema room with a large screen TV, giving access to a wide range of international TV channels - great for kids, and for adults wanting to keep abreast of world news and/or sports! Additionally, our dedicated staff can help to organise any activities, excursions or transport to/from airports and/or train stations.

There is a definite charm to staying somewhere secluded and seemingly detached from the modern world. At La Verrière we strive to provide our guests with a true taste of historical Provence whilst not compromising on comfort or style.
